The Norse Mythology Creation Worlds
Ginnungagap: An open void which was bordered by Niflheim, far to the north, and Muspelheim, far to the south. This was later covered by Ymir's body.
Niflheim (World of Cold): A dark cold realm beyond Ginnungagap. It was a land of ice, frost, wind, rain and heavy cold. This land is also sometimes called Hel and interchanged as the world of the dead.
Muspelheim (World of Fire): A firey realm to the south of Ginnungagap. The sparks from this world were used to create the sun, stars, and moon.
Midgard (Middle Earth): In order to protect themselves against the giants, a stronghold was built by the sons of Bor out of Ymir's eyebrows.
Asgard: The dweling of the gods (Aesir) and their kindred (also built by the sons of Bor). In this dwelling was a great hall named Hlidskjálf where Odin sat and looked at the world.
Vanaheim: Home of the Vanir.
Jotumheim: World of the frost giants.
Alfheim: Home of the light elves (ljósálfar).
Svartalfheim: The underground world for the black elves (svartálfar).
Nidavellir: The land of the dwarves.
