Asclepius-Bronze Bust-645-555BC-Public Domain Asclepius was known as the god of medicine and healing. It is said that he learned all of his healing methods from the wise centaur Chiron, and learned his lessons so well that he was able to raise the dead. Zeus was afraid that this would lead to mere men becoming immortal and struck him with a lightening bolt. He was then placed among the stars as Ophlucheis, the serpent-bearer.

Depicted: Asclepius was generally depicted as a bearded man wearing the traditional long and flowing robes of the time. It was said that his chest was frequently left uncovered.
