Charon is best known as the ferryman of the underworld. He was responsible for ferrying the dead
across the rivers Acheron and Styx. If he was not given a gold coin (Obolus), he would leave them to wander the river
shores for eternity.
Depicted: Charon is often depicted as a gnarled old man, stooped over a ferry pole. He is always seen hooded and often wearing a black cloak.
