Metis was the wisest of all of the gods and mortals alike. She was the one who aided Zeus in having his father cough up his siblings. Metis was a consort of Zeus, and later became pregnant with his child. It was said that the offspring of the two would be the one to overthrow him. Zeus swallowed Metis and later gave birth to his daughter from his own head. Athena sprang to the world in full body armor.
