The Erinyes were known as the avengers of wrong. They were perhaps the best known by their Roman name (The Furies). Their numbers varied but there were generally thought to be three furies. The three common names of them were, Alecto, Megaera, and Tisiphone. The Erinyes were very against any crimes that involved bloodshed, particularily those that involved crimes to the family.

Depicted: The Erinyes were usually depicted as ugly women with snakes mixed in their hair and black skin. They also wore soiled grey robes. Their breath was disgusting and poison dripped from their eyes. They often waved brass-studded whips, flaming torches and snakes.
